The perfect night out(fit)
Whether you’re going to dinner with your girlfriends, on a date with the boy you like, to a fancy restaurant with your family, you know that there is a slight (not so slight) possibility that you’ll be going out after. This is what I call the perpetual greek night life effect: you never intend on staying out till 4 am and sharing a taxi back home from Kolonaki with 4 other people (2 of which you just met). It’s like an inevitable event that simply happens. So, no matter the formality and occasion beforehand, you should always keep the scenario in mind of going out, especially during winter when you can go se Vissi (my queen). Therefore, we should always have in mind that you’re trying to look more sparkly than the disco ball on the ceiling.
But really, try not to go out wearing the same pair of worn out jeans and skims tank top every single time. Instead, do as I say.
Firstly, you want to start with a pair of sheerly black tights (it does get cold) and a mini skirt. Now, the skirt can be anything from sequin, satin, leather, or jean, as long as it’s a darker colour. I’ve been loving cherry red sequins and irridiscent glitters that only appear in strobe lights. You could also opt for a short or skort, minimising the risk of flashing people while you’re dancing. When it comes to shoes, I love going for any sort of boots, whether that’s knee-high ones or shorter Isabel marants. If you don’t want to engage in the pain of heels, you can try wearing ballerina slippers or any type of flats too. There’s soo many options in the shoe section at golden hall if you’re looking for a cute ballerina slipper for the winter months. Paired wiith tights they’re just chefs kiss. Then, on top, I would go for a long sleeve. Not a jumper, because id get itchy and hot, but a normal to thick long sleeve top that can easilyy be worn with a coat or jacket to keep you from shivering to death and complaining all night instead of having fun. Open backs look insane, especially when paired with a glittery skirt and a cute ponytail. As well as this, you can go for a plainly basic bodysuit if you really want to look snatched, just make sure you pair it with something funkier underneath. Think of it like this: at least one piece your wearing (without including your handbag because that is not always on you) should be of some form of glitter, texture, pattern etc. Or else, you’re gonna end up getting lost in the dark and noone will be able to recognise you.
Finally, when it comes to accessories- in my opinion- there is no such thing as overdoing it. I could even say I support mixing metals. Take it from me, where I wear gold, rose gold and silver all on my left wrist and yet it doesn’t bother me! But, keep this in mind: chunky earrings means dainty or no necklace (you cans till go crazy with the bracelets and rings), and chunky necklace means studs or small hoops! I mean, I always go for big earrings and small necklace, because I usually almost always wear something that covers my torso. Remember if you’re gonna wear a long sleeve that goes high up the neck, there’s no point in picking out a necklace to match as no-one will really see it anyways, the cold metal pieces will just clank against your skin! Winter season for me is bag seasonnnn. My favourite part of getting ready is that final minute where you’re rushing and trying to fit the pillow talk lip duo, wallet, gum, keys and mini perfumes into one teeny tiny bag. Cherry red, dark green, black, studded silver, gold, dark blue, and even white bags literally go with everything. From bottega Jodies, dior saddle bags and alaia bags, to mango’s new winter collection, there’s so many options. Pro tip: take a small trip to your mom’s closet. Specially during winter time, in the same way we defrost Mariah Carey’s masterpieces, you need to defrost your mom’s vintage party bags from the 90s, where as we all know fashion was at it’s peakkkk.
So, to summarise my accidentally quite aggressive advice on looking and feeling good on a Friday or Saturday night in the freezing middle of Athens, I would strongly advise you to find a few statement shoes, invest in a classic coat that goes with everything, and perhaps a branded scarf (Missoni ones are insane). Tops and skirts don’t have to be super super luxurious, the only thing to keep in mind when buying them is the way they will fit on YOUR body’s shape and the comfort of their material!
Lots of love and good luck, the weekend’s approaching,
Kat :)
